Growing up I internalized poverty and violence against women into a belief that my voice didn’t matter and I couldn’t contribute because I was a girl. Even though I loved the natural world and life sciences, I lacked the confidence that I could pursue a STEM calling. At Wellesley I found strong, determined, courageous and smart female role models. From my professors and my driven and talented peers I learned to think critically, formulate my ideas and deliver them with impact. Most importantly, I gained the confidence that I can find solutions to complex problems. Today I work at a pharmaceutical company and continue my education part time. I love my work and I am grateful to Wellesley and the Davis Scholars program for providing the springboard to a life I once could not imagine.
