In Ecosystem Ecology, students are trying to determine what role humans play in sustainably managing ecosystems—including Wellesley’s campus ecosystem. Taught by Jaclyn Hatala Matthes, assistant professor of biological sciences, this course and others will take place in the new Horticulture and Ecology Lab. With full-spectrum lighting designed to support plant life and easy access to outdoor labs and the new Camilla Chandler Frost '47 Center for the Environment, this lab will be a critical physical space for integrating sustainability and environmental issues into the curriculum.
