This winter, students are retreating from the outdoors to new and newly renovated spaces on campus, often made possible by Wellesley's Campaign to advance the Wellesley Effect. Lakeside at Acorns, on east campus in Freeman Hall, and in Pendleton Hall on the academic quad, Wellesley is enjoying rejuvenated areas for studying and socializing.
Acorns is a multicultural space for students of Latinx and Asian descent. The midcentury modern building is situated near the water, offering lovely views of Lake Waban. It houses faculty advisor offices, meeting spaces, and cooking/gathering areas.

Classes are moving into Pendleton West as spaces become available. Andrew Mobray’s ARTS 113: Three-Dimensional Design course is one of the first to be held in the new section of the building, which will include art studios and music performance spaces as well as classrooms and common areas.
Elsewhere in Pendleton West, Alexandria Smith’s ARTS 105: Drawing I students begin new projects.
Farther east, past the Science Center, students gather at lunchtime in the renovated Freeman living room. Thanks to casters and handles, the furniture is easy to reconfigure for multiple uses.
Weather permitting, students can enjoy the outdoors in the renovated Freeman courtyard.
And when snow brings them back inside, they can enjoy the view from the comfort of a window seat.
